february 2015 birchbox review

This month’s Birchbox was so, so good!  I was excited from the moment I received my sample choice email and saw that Birchbox would be launching a moisturizing salt spray – an essential for taming my wavy hair.  Beyond selecting that sample, I had no idea what other goodies were in store.

Marcelle Gentle Eye Make-up Remover for Sensitive Eyes: As a contact-lens-wearer my eyes are incredibly sensitive and generally grumpy.  I intentionally did not take my contacts out before using this and over-saturated my cotton ball to see how the formula would feel on my eyes – and I felt literally nothing.  The formula is gentle (as promised!) and effective, and didn’t leave an oily residue on my eyes.  I did have to use a lot of it to get off my black eyeliner and 2 coats of mascara, and with that in mind, the price is a little high compared to my go-to $8 drugstore staple.  I won’t be buying this one but will enjoy having it while the sample lasts!

theBalm cosmetics Read My Lips (Rose Pink): I was bummed about this one but not surprised as I have a really hard time with neutral lip colors – they are either too subtle or too pink for my medium skin tone.  I liked that the formula was thick, opaque, and shiny without a hint of stickiness.  I gave this one to a fairer-toned friend and she loved it.

Laura Geller Beauty GlamLASH Dramatic Volumizing Mascara: It coated and separated each individual lash giving me length and zero clumps.  I didn’t get as much volume from it as I thought I would, but loved how the brush kept each lash completely separate as volumizing mascaras can create a clumpy disaster on your eyes.  I didn’t have to brush my lashes out after applying. I didn’t buy this yet and am undecided if I will due to price (my current mascara is only $12 and I’m prioritizing skincare purchases over makeup right now).

Harvey Prince Ageless – Pink Grapefruit: When February rolls around and you think “I could use a new scent for spring,”  this is the one you want.  Full disclosure: I’ve yet to meet a Harvey Prince scent I didn’t like.  They are all bright, clean scents, but this one has an especially springy, youthful feel.  It’s on my list!

PARLOR by Jeff Chaistain Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray:  This product is EVERYTHING. And I am not a person who says that often.  I tried it in two ways: on wet hair and on dry hair – both times with fantastic results.  I mixed it in to my current regimen (leave-in conditioner and a styling cream) and diffused the roots.  It worked best when I left the length of my hair damp.  I also used it on dry hair for a messy bedhead look that was somehow work appropriate.  I already bought the full size and can’t wait to play with it more!

so, what did you think?
