Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Rensaissance

It’s no secret that since I picked up the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette I have been completely obsessed.  It’s to the point where I have to consciously force myself to show my other palettes some love.  Day-to-day (since I work in an office where I would feel uncomfortable rolling in rocking a dramatic eye) I have been dipping into the gorgeous neutrals like Vermeer and Warm Taupe, but on the weekend I can’t keep my brush out of the gorgeous plum toned shades – particularly Venetian Red and Love Letter.  To be honest, those 2 shades are the entire reason I splurged on this palette…

While this palette isn’t necessarily what I would call ‘affordable,’ I do think it’s a great value if you’re able to purchase it – you get 14 shades at $42, bringing each pan to $3.  These aren’t the largest pans, but unless you’re a professional makeup artist, it’s pretty unlikely that you’ll hit pan quickly.  I personally only had 2 Anastasia shadows prior to picking up the Modern Renaissance palette, and felt this would be a good way to get a feel for mattes, shimmers, and satins.  So far I am VERY pleased with my purchase.

The plum toned smokey-ish look I created here is surprisingly quick and easy (like, even I was surprised at how quickly it came together) and can easily be toned down for day, or glammed up for night.  I took a middle-of-the-road approach with a thin wing and subtle lashes – to tone this look down, you’d want to skip re-intensifying the colors after the first blend; to take it to the next level, consider a thicker wing, more Cyprus Umber in the crease and outer corner, and an even smokier lower lashline.
